Does Jacob from Twilight count as a “villain”? If so, I side with the villain!

Have you ever liked a villain more than the hero? Who and why?

Say what you will about the movies and the books, but the Twilight Saga was a moment! I remember being so excited to see each new movie as they came out. I was eager to see if they kept it true to the books, or if the film makers would take “poetic license’. When I saw this prompt, Jacob’s character came to mind.

Dude got the short end of the stick. He’s a reluctant wolf who’s been in love with his childhood friend for a while now… Then all of a sudden, some rich, pasty vampire guy comes and Jacob got treated like chopped liver. Not cool, Bella! Edward becomes Jacab’s romantic and supernatural nemesis, cuz vampires hate wolves and wolves kill vampires, so this contest becomes EPIC! Yes, I loved the rivalry.

A consistent theme between both art forms was that in both, Jacob “chose” to be a killer. He was a violent, wild beast who couldn’t or wouldn’t control his (worst) instincts. If Jacob became violent or killed (a vampire), Bella would chastise him, saying that he “changed” and that she didn’t recognize him anymore. Give me a break! Hello?! Edward and his “family” were selfish, violent monsters who lived by their own their “survival”. One such example of Bella’s hypocrisy was when Edward told Bella that he’s killed people before, she was so far gone for him that her response was “I don’t care.” Really Bella? Even though I was a fan, I rolled eyes for that scene. At least Edward knew who he was, but Bella was convinced that he was essentially redeemable for no other reason than because she loved him. Get a grip, girl!. It kinda reminds me of a popular song lyric: “Bad man shi luv…” Translated, this lyric means that the female submitted loves or is attracted to a bad guy, or an outlaw. You know what? In my opinion it’s better to know your your type than to fool yourself into believing that he’s something or someone that he’s not. But before I get all preachy (too late!) let me get back to the point: I’m team Jacob! If he’s a villain, “I don’t care.” 🤭
